The Kickin'
Mules qualified the team to the State Finals for the second consecutive year
with a second place finish at the Brownstown Woodhaven Regional. Saline
(Michigan #4) won the regional for the second year in a row. The weather was
cold and windy with an occasional spit of rain in beautiful Lake Erie Metropark
which sits right on the lake. The 8th ranked Mules were competing without senior
Derek Hibbs who was out with an illness. Derek plans to be back in the lineup
next week at MIS. Bedford was led by junior Nick Kaiser who finished in 3rd
place overall. Tommy Valade finished in 6th place this year after winning the
individual championship last year. Sophomore Adam Horace had a huge race
finishing third for the Mules and 11th place overall. Troy Tidwell, Chad
Machinski, and Jacob Nye finished 18th, 19th, and 20th in the race. Jacob's 20th
place finish (6th runner for Bedford) was better than Monroe's 6th runner (24th
place) which broke the tie for second place in Bedford's favor. Corey Schoendorf,
also struggling with illness, did not have his best day and was the 7th
runner for Bedford.
By finishing in the top three
teams, Bedford moves on to the State Finals next week at MIS. The SEC Red
Division had another strong day. Saline, Bedford, and Monroe qualified at the
Brownstone Woodhaven Regional and AA Pioneer (1st) and AA Huron (3rd) qualified
at the Ann Arbor Huron Regional. The SEC White Division also had a good day with
Dexter 1st and Chelsea 3rd at the D2 regional at Hudson, both schools qualifying
for next weeks Finals.
Bedford had some very good
performances in the Open Co-Ed race that ended the day yesterday. Those
results will be posted when available.
