The Bedford school record for the 800 meter run stood for 46 long years entering this season. Nick Kaiser has now broken this record in each of his first two weeks of the season. This past Saturday he led from start to finish winning the Mansfield Relays with a time of 1:54.3. The day before, he led off the 4 x 1600 meter relay with a 4:27 leading his team to a 5th place finish. Other members of this relay include Andrew Althaus, Chad Machinski, and Derek Hibbs (see photo above). Tommy Valade finished 7th in the 3200 meter run on Friday. On Saturday, several other Bedford athletes competed. Ian Fleetwood ran the 200 m and long jumped. Nick Prielipp competed in the high jump (won by Erik Kynard of Toledo Rogers in an Ohio state record of 7-02.75). Mason Cole and Zach LaMour competed in the shot put and discus. Valade ran the 1600 meters and Machinski the 800 m. Michigan teams dominated the distance events. Stephen Walker from Midland Dow won both the 1600 m and the 3200 m runs (he was the 2008 division 1 state CC champion).
